Back-to-School Trends

San Francisco, CA — this assignment was for Chute Insights, a user-generated content marketing automation platform that gave brands control over the world’s visual media.

The Assignment

Writer Monica put together a creative brief about back-to-school trends of that year, intended as a long-form infographic for their resources page; and to pitch to reporters, get coverage.

The Chute tool for marketers to discover, analyze, and filter real-time visual content from social media, was how all the back-to-school trends on Instagram were compiled for this diagram.

The Creative Brief

I submitted a draft. Kept it playful. Wanted color yellow like school bus, to chaperone the top of the graphic, watch over the several lil’ slices of info.

Had been wanting to vector draw an Elmer’s glue; snuck in a Chute-powered one, for funsies.

Kept the background white for this one, like coloring book; to spotlight the colors, like crayons. The edges of the graphic, invisibly seen, by way of subdivision headings and horizontal rule lines. Got feedback. We worked a couple rounds of edits.
