Opposite Day

“Listen kid, I’m not gonna bullshit you, all right ? I don’t give a good fuck what you know, or don’t know; but I’m gonna torture you anyway, regardless. Not to get information. It’s amusing, to me, to torture a cop. You can say anything you want ‘cause I’ve heard it all before. All you can do is pray for a quick death, which you ain’t gonna get.” — Mr. Blonde, from Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 film Reservoir Dogs

V1
she’s like:
“it’s torture, it’s motherfuckin’ torturous”
this ain’t an office
it’s something like a rotting apple orchard
rochi, office worker
but more a contortionist
bending backwards
for a 500 fortunate
cramming 12 hours into 8
of course it is presumed
but also 3 meetings ! 6 meetings !
this is torture !
what’s the point of
bolstering this fortress
if it don’t up esteem,
touch the ghost, rush endorphins

V2
rochi works for an app
that unpacks your groceries
lunch time ! food truck !
she goes to grab pirozhkis
okey dokey
back to the job that robs her
crooked art director
stealing all the credit off her
last straw
they siphoned all of her patience
her mind’s gone fishing
row boat is floating vacant
she looks around at all of the
entitled, phony complacents
observing she’s a servant
a human, being wasted !

V3
back to her abode
’97 blue corolla
red lights — yellow lights
why do lights control her ?
she wonders: why do we
obey the painted lines
and why do we devote
to companies who take our lives

V4
she yells, to hell with it
tomorrow’s opposite day !
say what i want
no sugarcoating,
no more talkin’ afraid
fine, i’ll work 7 hours
but i’m stoppin’ at 8 !
today’s the last day
that i opt to degrade ..
i’m a person with purpose
not a robotic slave
this system is an engine
corroded spotted decay
indoctrinating ways
they wash brain
tel a vision
such a dramatic play
i can alter, this stage ..

V5
rochi, so she
wants to trade parts
wants to free will
there’s an orca in her heart
that wants to rebuild
jump water
splash arc
out of the sunset
into the fresh dark
